Sorry, we were offline for close to 3 hours on March 31st. A neighbourhood wide power outage took all our systems offline.
Even with a good uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), 3 hours is too long to keep all the necessary equipment going. Besides, when your fibre connection is offline, doesn’t really matter if your servers are working.
I did take a look at extending emergency power. But APC suggests a price range of about $5,000 for 1 hour of backup power. Ouch.
An 800-1500 watts Solar array would be cheaper to deploy than a 1 hour battery backup. This would also have kept some essential services in the neighbourhood going if this was a regional grid setup.
